Is Coaching Right for You?

At one time coaching was used as a last step for an executive about to fall off the ladder.  However times have changed and leadership coaching has been embraced as an important learning and development service by organizations.

There are many different areas of leadership coaching.  Coaching engagements can focus on:

  • Coaching skill development
  • Shadowing staff meetings
  • Maximizing effectiveness at all levels

Some additional areas coaching engagements can focus on are:

  • Interpersonal team relations
  • Soft skills ( such as communications)
  • Emotional intelligence skills
  • Performance review and preparation
  • Preparing for organizational changes

*Emotional Intelligence – The capacity to be aware of, control and express one’s emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.

**emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success.

Jim Clifton, Gallup Chairman states in his latest book The Coming Job Wars that what people want today more than anything – even more than love, is a good job.  Good jobs are created in well functioning companies with good managers that have engaged employees.

If your employees are engaged then you have an opportunity to benefit from your human capital, employees working at their best capacity.

So this brings us back to the benefits of coaching.  Coaching is a proven leadership development tool that accelerates results because it is tailored to both the individual’s development goals and the company’s immediate business needs.  Coaching is used to refine leadership skills, enhance performance in the current role, or prepare for future positions.
